In 1927, Henri Cartier-Bresson studied painting with the Cubist, Andre Lhote. He then visited Cambridge University to attend art and literature courses. In 1931, Henri Cartier-Bresson travelled to Africa to hunt antelope and boar, but he became bored with it after a while. Being in Africa helped him discover that he loved photography.
Henri Cartier-Bresson was considered a master of candid photography. Candid photography involves taking a picture of people as subjects who aren't posing. He made his shots more realistic by wrapping his Leica camera in black tape to make it less obvious. He believed that the pictures could be more realistic if they don't know about the camera. Henri Cartier-Bresson introduced candid photography to the world and he shared his techniques that went along with it.
